Biography
Based in Charlottesville VA, Orion and the Melted Crayons creates a signature sound by blending direct lyrics, earwig melodies, intricate harmonies and unique musicality with smacking grooves. With a penchant for finding joy in the world, TMC contrasts soaring highs and everyday vibes with poignant pain atop a bed of sweet chords and poly-rhythm. The September 3rd 2021 debut album, "The Good Stuff", adds a neo-soul, rock and indie sound while still touching on the original Appalachian roots of the project. The record is designed to help listeners feel, to feel good if they can but first to feel so that later they can feel good.
Songwriter and producer Orion Faruque was awarded the 2023 Virginia Commision for the Arts Songwriting Fellow and views The Melted Crayons as the songs he compulsively writes to express himself. Trusting the music will gather the multi-instrumentalists needed to bring them into existence, the Melted Crayons collaborates with musicians across the nation and performs as a 5/6 piece live band. The vision created by The Melted Crayons will take you on a sonic tour of your heart.
Over the course of a couple years, the band has grown from an acoustic based project to a full blown funk rhythm section. During a show, the band loves swapping instruments to better serve the song so you may find them playing musical chairs during their next show and the experience can range from tight arrangements to exploratory jams.
